abigor are elder statesmen of black metal who are still creating potent works in the present day. it is remarkable that a group formed in 1993 are still producing works as solid as this record more than twenty years since the band's inception. in death metal, there are bands like immolation and incantation who were around since way back when and who are still creating filthy nasty works of putrefaction and horror. in the realm of black metal, feast on abigor.

If you were to say to me, "The world is ending. We need you to choose a black metal horde. We are going to put several recent albums by that horde on a golden LP and shoot it off into space, so that extra terrestrial life forms may one day know what heights the dark art of black metal had reached by 2017." I would choose this record. Bestial Arcana is part of a horde - by that I mean it shares members with - that includes Nightbringer and Akhlys. Those three bands really represent a vanguard of black metal today, if you ask me. I would say they are to black metal what Portal, Impetuous Ritual and Grave Upheaval are to death metal. A most important unholy trinity. Atmospheric. Devotional. Dyed in the wool evil.

some days you just get up and you need some ripping black metal. you could talk a lot of smack about united states black metal if you wanted to, but these blokes are the genuine article. read this recent interview where they wax philosophical about how evil they are and see for yourself just how true is this guy's face tattoo.

i was listening to the excellent 'more better days' comp, and a stand out track on volume one of that fine release was from this profoundly strange pop record. i was so happy to have been able to find this on the inter webs so that i could share it with you. front to back, this record does not disappoint.
