Guttural Secrete - Nourishing The Spoil (2013)
buildings - 'melt cry sleep' (2013)
hey guys let's start a band that plays heavy rock exactly like we're from the 90s, but wait, here's the twist, we're gonna be so good at it that nobody'll fuck with us. _alibi
"You'd see these guys hanging out back of the community center hustling their well used equipment into a van. The means of conveyance was invariably always a mid 80s Chrysler product that looked like it had reentered Earth's atmosphere two or three times, purchased by the drummer at a police or municipal auction, passed over by kidnappers and child molesters both. The decay that beset all American made vehicles in that decade was held in check by stickers for manufacturers of musical instruments and skateboards that had ceased production before you were born. It seemed to always be raining the nights these guys played and you'd quell your fear of their cigarette and darkness obscured faces with a croaky, quiet, “Hey”. They'd nod in approval. They recognised you, a kindred soul. They saw your release, by the third song in the set where the hard massage of volume and vacuum tube distortion opened you, both of you actually, to start communicating this fear. This fear which was of each other, but in reality was a shared fear of out there, what lie beyond the reach of the Master knob on the JCM800. The reality of disappointment, resentment and third shift at the lumber yard, or the sheet metal factory. Hearts that came pre broken. That was the fear, the actual fear." _lionshead

STRAVINSKY - EBONY CONCERTO
ol' man stravinsky wrote this piece in 1945 for his homeboy woody herman, a jazz dude. pretentious hoity-toity types will tell you that woody couldn't really handle this epic clarinet part, and that the 1970s version is way better, with pierre boulez conducting the slick frenchies of the ensemble intercontemporain. and when it comes to 20th century white people music, i always go with the pretentious folk.
