a.p.e. c.a.v.e. - 'p.i.l.l.a.r.s. o.f. e.v.o.l.u.t.i.o.n.' (2016)
b.e.y.o.n.d. c.r.e.a.t.i.o.n. - 't.h.e. a.u.r.a.' (2011)
this one is another gem from the small handful of recommendations on the gorguts bandcamp. worth checking out? you bet. corny as all get out? absolutely. brilliant in the way that only music that people spent an insane amount of time making can be? all signs point to yes. and once again, this one has just absurdly ridiculous bass guitar. it's way high in the mix. and it's fretless. fretless electric bass guitars are pretty much a cardinal sin in any type of music, unless you want to sound like pearl jam. yet, this works. and slays. cop it already. favourite song titles include 'no request for the corrupted', 'injustice revealed' and 'social disability'.
a.t.h.e.i.s.t. - 'u.n.q.u.e.s.t.i.o.n.a.b.l.e. p.r.e.s.e.n.c.e.' (1991)
if you go to the bandcamp page of gorguts, you'll find a recommendations section. in it, you'll find only a small handful of records, of which this is one, labeled as a classic of technical death metal. upon checking it out, i am pleased to report that it is all that and more. they're from florida, where from nearly all the original gangster american death metallers hail. and they've got a bassist who slaps. my partner in crime dj lionshead described this bass player as reminding him of the guy in fishbone. it's pretty hilarious. and righteous. and awesome.
